Summary: Northern Kentucky Tri-ED seeks to create opportunity and prosperity for all Northern Kentuckians. This position supports that mission by providing insightful data analysis that helps us better support our existing businesses, our community partners, and companies looking to make a new home in Northern Kentucky.

The Research Manager is responsible for conducting industry and economic research, leading Tri-ED’s Data-Informed Community Decision-Making initiative, and supporting the management of data for Northern Kentucky Tri-ED and its economic development operations. This position will provide Tri-ED with robust data support, but will also proactively share trends in demographics, economics, real estate, and business so that Tri-ED staff are equipped with the latest information to assist clients and communities. This position will maintain important day-to-day relationships with REDI Cincinnati, Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, partner organizations, local communities, and external firms.

  1. Effectively conduct primary and secondary research and present the results both internally and externally.
  2. Oversee and coordinate the collection, input, and presentation of data to support the mission and strategic objectives of Tri-ED.
  3. Lead the rollout and implementation of Tri-ED’s five-year Data-Informed Community Decision-Making initiative – a community indicators project using a web-based data sharing platform.
  4. Conduct industry research focused on maintaining and developing Tri-ED’s competitive advantages in its target industry clusters. This position will work closely with the Business Growth Manager on this work.
  5. Stay current on local, regional, national, and international economic, business, and government news and trends.
  6. Work with staff across the organization to perform research aimed at promoting the region and responding to economic development leads/projects.
  7. Review and recommend new or different data sources/tools and provide input to Tri-ED’s annual budget.
  8. Extract, transform, and load data to/from internal and external databases.
  9. Design and implement organizational processes that ensure Tri-ED maintains high standards of data quality, completeness, and compliance.
  10. Maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge in data collection methods (qualitative and quantitative), research design methodology, and statistical/econometric techniques.
  11. Represent Tri-ED on relevant external boards and committees.

  7. Familiarity with modern database and information system technologies.
  8. Experience with research and data, including deriving meaningful insights from data and putting findings into practice.
  9. Ability to write professional and technical reports, involving combinations of maps, graphs, charts, tables, and text for diverse audiences.
  10. Display a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  11. Comfortable speaking in front of people at in-person and virtual meetings (like a Tri-ED Board Meeting) and events.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, real estate, data analytics, library science, or a related field from an accredited college or university, or any combination of training and experience that meets the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  2. At least 3 years of directly applicable experience is preferred.
  3. Familiarity with Federal data sources, such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Census Bureau, and Bureau of Economic Analysis.
  4. Knowledge of Salesforce, JobsEQ, ArcGIS Business Analyst, Tableau, and Total Impact (or comparable products) is a plus.
  5. Must have a high level of curiosity combined with strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Must have excellent written communication, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  7. Must be creative in locating data sources and combining multiple data sources to provide complete and comparable information.
  8. Must be able to present data and information in a way that is understood by a diverse audience.
  9. Must have strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  10. Must be a self-starter, motivated, results-oriented, and willing to learn new skills.
