Logistics & Supply Chain Technology in Northern Kentucky

Historically, the supply chain technology, logistics, and distribution industry has been characterized more by its labor-intensive nature than by embracing technology-led innovation. The logistics technology sector looks to change this dynamic via technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics. Load-matching technologies that can efficiently match shippers with freight carriers, for example, could disrupt traditional brokers. Similarly, advances in robotics may streamline warehouse operations.

Education

To help fill the growing employment and innovation pipeline for supply chain technology and logistics, ten regional colleges, universities, and career campuses offer related degrees and certificates.

  • Northern Kentucky University (NKU) now offers a Bachelor of Science in Global Supply Chain Management to provide students insight into strategic sourcing and global inventory management and practical knowledge of distribution, transportation and logistics strategies.
  • Gateway Community & Technical College offers training in the global supply chain for supply chain specialists, global sales associates, and logistics managers.
  • Supply Chain OKI is a nonprofit organization that helps youth and the unemployed find job opportunities and the education to create the next generation of supply chain employees in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
  • In a 2021 report from San Francisco-based CodeSignal, Miami was ranked No. 2 among U.S. colleges for coding assessments, ahead of Carnegie Mellon and Columbia University.

SmartAsset named the Cincinnati region as the #1 city for new college grads in 2022, the fourth year in the top spot.

“With Hy-Tek’s acquisition of AHS, we are thrilled to be a part of Kentucky’s techno-focused growth. We’ve observed the increased activity of robotic training in the easternmost part of the state. The environment in Northern Kentucky and the growth in logistics led us to locate our innovation lab near our corporate office. The future of our industry will rely on the emerging technologies that we integrate, test and evaluate within our lab. We will continuously review new and better ways to solve our customers’ challenges. It’s an exciting time for our industry, and we are thrilled to call Kentucky home.”
